Grievances
As 1st Vice
President of WVEA, my official duty is to represent teachers involved in
a grievance dispute. As defined, a “grievance” is a formal written
allegation submitted in writing by a teacher that has been adversely
affected by a violation, misinterpretation or misapplication of the
terms of our contract. Once the grievance process is initiated, both
parties must follow strict time guidelines. Teachers need to know that a
formal grievance can only be directed at items found in our contract.
There are many steps that should be attempted before an
official grievance is filed. A teacher having a grievance is encouraged
to talk with the school site administer as well as the WVEA site
representative in order to resolve issues by finding an equitable
solution to the problem.
If unresolved, the next step would be to contact me at
Walnut High School 909-594-1333 ext. 43608.
Once I am involved with the dispute, I will offer to have a joint
conference with all parties involved in an attempt to solve the problem.
This step is very important and often will solve the dispute.
You may have other concerns or problems not found
within the guidelines of our contract. When these occur, I am willing to
come out to your school site and represent you by talking to the
involved parties or asking for an informal conference with the site
administrator. Such meetings are an important step in finding a mutually
acceptable solution to your problem. If you are not sure of the process
or guidelines involved in the grievance process or if you just need to
talk to someone, please feel free to contact me at the numbers provided.
